Deciding whether a 65-inch TV fits your small living room is really about viewing distance, not room size alone

The standard rule of thumb for 4K TVs is that your seating distance (in feet) should be roughly 1 to 1.5 times the screen diagonal in inches divided by 12 — so a 65-inch 4K TV works best at about 1.5 to 2.7 metres (5–9 feet) of viewing distance. In a small Indian living room where the sofa is only 6–8 feet from the wall, a 65-inch screen can actually be ideal for immersive viewing, not overwhelming. The real problem is if your room is narrow and you're sitting closer than 5 feet — at that distance even a 55-inch can cause eye strain. A 55-inch is the safer pick for rooms under roughly 12x10 feet with a fixed sofa placement close to the screen.

Good for: Anyone whose sofa sits 6–9 feet from the TV wall — a 65-inch will look great and is genuinely worth it in 4K.

Skip if: Skip the 65-inch if your seating is closer than 5 feet, the room is narrow and the TV will dominate the wall awkwardly, or your budget doesn't stretch to a quality 65-inch panel (poor panels at that size look worse than a good 55-inch).
